WFS Manning Family Science Building
Woodberry Forest School commissioned Bartzen & Ball to design a new science building to replace the existing Gray Math Science Building which was no longer large enough to support the needs of the science program.
The first phase of the design process involved a master planning and site study exercise to determine the optimum location for the new 38,000 square foot building. Users of the building will benefit from distant views of the landscape, as well as convenience of proximity to the residential and academic areas of the campus.
The program for the building includes labs for the Biology, Chemistry and Physics programs, along with associated office, general classroom and storage space. Particular attention has been paid to interactive spaces where students and faculty may interact. Bartzen & Ball has developed a design which respects the architectural traditions established on the Woodberry Forest School campus. Materials include brick, slate and other sustainable materials.
