Montpelier Train Depot
The historic Montpelier train station was built by the Southern Railway in 1911 and was originally intended to serve William duPont’s transportation needs between Delaware and Virginia.
DuPont bought the Montpelier property in 1901. As part of an overall campaign to restore this National Trust house and property, the train station has been restored to meet the Federal and State guidelines for historic preservation and is eligible for tax credit financing.
The original building, which was segregated into black and white waiting rooms, will serve as an exhibit of the African American experience at Montpelier as well as the local post office at Montpelier Station, Virginia.
